The Erasmus House
Let’s skip over the Stone Age and Bronze Age remnants found in the area. Let’s brush over the recurring battles that took place there, between the Count of Flanders who was eventually defeated by his sister-in-law and her ally, Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor.
Rather, let’s take a look at the origin of the name of our new house: indeed, in the 16th century, the Dutch humanist writer and theologian, Erasmus of Rotterdam, lived in Anderlecht’s canon’s house for a few months.
All this to say… Yes! That guy did indeed give his name to the famous European student exchange program which you actually might be part of?
Though Anderlecht is filled with famous people and events, the city is mostly known to Belgians today thanks to its historically famous football club, the RSC Anderlecht.
The Astrid Park, which offers hilly breathtaking views is home to the football club and guess what?… a ten minute walk from the house!
